ChessboArt800 — First Edition is a one-of-a-kind wall-mounted chess board created as a finished studio piece, based on the ChessboArt800 design.
This edition explores a distinctive material contrast. The dark squares are made from American walnut, while the light squares and margin are crafted from heartwood ash — the darker inner part of the ash tree, selected for its expressive grain and naturally occurring deep accents.
The result is a board with strong visual rhythm and depth. Variations in tone and grain are natural characteristics of the wood itself, making this First Edition impossible to replicate exactly.
Designed as a gallery-quality object for interior spaces, the board remains fully functional for play. Embedded magnets ensure clean, stable gameplay and confident wall display. The exact piece shown in the photos is the one available to purchase.
Availability & shipping: this is a finished First Edition piece, available now. Preparation and dispatch typically take 2–5 business days, depending on studio availability.
This board is the first physical realization of this specific material composition. Even if a similar idea returns in the future, the natural structure of heartwood ash and American walnut ensures that no two boards can ever be identical.
