A small detail that changes everything. Each inlay is hand-poured epoxy resin, set into a hidden magnet inside your ChessboArt pieces — swap colors in seconds, mix combinations across the board, or return to the natural wood finish whenever you like. No other wall chess set lets you do this.

Most chess sets force a choice you can't undo — the color is poured once, and that's it. ChessboArt's magnetic inlays turn that choice into an ongoing one. Redecorate your set for a holiday, a tournament, or just a new mood in the room — the same pieces, endless looks.
Every ChessboArt wooden and plywood piece has a hidden magnet inside its base cavity. The inlay itself is a thin metal plate with hand-poured epoxy resin on top, shaped to match each piece's silhouette.
Many of our collectors tell us the same thing — they love the grain of ash and walnut too much to cover it permanently. Inlays are made for exactly that: leave your pieces bare for everyday play, and reserve the color for the moments that call for it. Remove the inlays, and the piece is simply, purely wood again. Each set includes 16 inlays — one full army. Choose a single-color set, or a two-tone combination for a more distinctive, personalized chess set. Every inlay is poured by hand, one piece at a time, giving pearl and glitter finishes real depth.

Nearly any custom color combination can be made to order — a private palette, a corporate color scheme, or a shade pulled from a photo you send us. Designed for ChessboArt wooden and plywood magnetic chess pieces (Solid Wood and Plywood sets). Not compatible with non-magnetic piece sets.
Each inlay is hand-poured epoxy resin — no two pours are perfectly identical. Pearl and glitter finishes in particular can shift slightly in tone, density, and shimmer between batches, and screen colors may differ slightly from the finished piece. This isn't a flaw — it's part of what makes each set genuinely one of a kind, made by hand in small batches, not molded in a factory.

Will the inlays fit my existing pieces?
Yes, if you're using ChessboArt magnetic wooden or plywood pieces with the standard recess. They're not compatible with non-magnetic sets or pieces from other manufacturers.
How do I insert and remove an inlay?
To insert, simply place the inlay into the piece's recess — the magnet inside the piece pulls it into position. To remove it, gently shake the piece for lighter inlays, or hold another magnetic piece felt-side against the inlay and lift it straight out.
Can I mix colors within one set — a ready color on one side and something custom on the other?
Yes. Each side of the board uses its own 16-inlay set, so you're free to combine any two colors, ready or custom.
Can I order a custom color?
Yes — select "Custom Color / Combination" at checkout and leave your request in the order notes, or email us afterward with your order number. We'll confirm the details before pouring.
Will there be a way to freely blend colors within a single inlay, not just across pieces?
We're a working art studio, and that's exactly the direction we're heading. If you have an idea for a color blend or pattern, get in touch and tell us about it — we'd love to hear it.
Can I buy the bare metal plates and finish them myself?
It's not a standard listing, but we're open to it — especially if you're willing to share what you make. Reach out and let's talk.
How do I care for the inlays?
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid soaking or harsh cleaners, which can dull the resin's finish over time.
