Personalized Wooden Chess Clock — Dedication & Logo Engraving
This service personalizes a wooden mechanical chess clock (also called a chess timer) with a clean, durable engraving: dedication text or logo. On request we can add a discreet ChessboArt origin mark confirming the clock was purchased from us. We use precision laser engraving for crisp lines.
What we engrave
- Dedication text (name, date, short message, monogram).
- Logo (vector preferred; high-quality B/W bitmap accepted).
- ChessboArt origin mark — optional, on request.
Typical length for text: 25–50 characters, depending on placement.
Clocks we accept
Engraving is available for wooden clocks purchased from our store. Other clocks must be sent in for evaluation so we can assess wood condition, access and risk.
We do not engrave dials, crystals or plastic/metal cases within this service.
Perfect as a gift or keepsake
Think personalized wooden chess clock for a retirement, tournament win or anniversary — a commemorative chess clock with a dedication on the base. Short, timeless messages age best; logos work well on the side or on a small brass plaque.
Where to engrave — best practices & collector notes
| Placement | Why it’s good | Notes / limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Base (underside) — most popular | Perfect for signatures and dedications; does not change the front look of the clock. | These are vintage wooden clocks; some already have inscriptions. On Ruhla/Gardé the base is often blank — if not, we can usually lightly sand, engrave, then re-oil/wax the wood. On Koopman the base often carries a warranty date stamp. We discourage sanding it off as it’s an important part of the clock’s history. |
| Sides / top | Visible yet discreet; good for initials or a small mark. | Requires enough flat area; light sanding only if needed. |
| Back near the service cover | Very discreet — nothing competes with the dials at the front. | We don’t engrave moving parts. Photos of the back help us confirm placement. |

Base engravings look best on a freshly refreshed surface.
Can I order a chess clock with a dedication?
Yes. We engrave dedications on the base (recommended) or on the sides/top/back. Short, timeless messages work best.
Do you personalize wooden chess clocks with logos?
Yes — we can engrave a logo on the wooden case or on a small brass plaque. You approve a proof before we engrave.
Is this suitable as a commemorative chess clock?
Absolutely. Many customers choose a commemorative chess clock for retirements, awards or tournament milestones — with date and name engraved on the base.
Will engraving remove patina?
On the base we may use light sanding only where needed, then re-oil/wax. We avoid removing original stamps (e.g., Koopman) unless you explicitly ask us to.
Do you engrave clocks not purchased from you?
Possibly. Please send the clock in for evaluation so we can check wood condition, access and risk. We’ll confirm feasibility and pricing.

Yes, it’s a small brand. And every story has to start somewhere.
And honestly — I’d be truly glad even if you just say hi.
